Questions

How many college football scholarships different conferences allow historically?

by Paul
(Nebraska )

I believe the old Southwest Conference could sign 50 football scholarships a year

The Big 8- 45
The SEC- 40
The Big 10- 35

But I don't know what the total # allowed on teams were. Limits were set by conferences.

I don't know the Pac 8 or what ever it was back then or the ACC, BIg East wasn't around then in football, also many more Independents than now

Like I said I think I know what some of the conferences could sign per year, but I don't know about the Pac 8 and ACC or any of the independent teams or lesser conferences.

Also don't know what the total # allowed on teams were. I think the old Big 8 could have a total of 145 back then, but I could be wrong. Now I guess its 25 per year and a total of 85 for everyone on a team.

Can anyone fill in any info here?
