Best All Time Field Hockey Player
There are a number of different forms of hockey. The best known ones are ice hockey and field hockey. While ice hockey is very popular in North America, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe, field hockey is particularly popular in Europe, Asia, Australia and South Africa. In fact, in India and Pakistan, field hockey is their national sport! So who is the best all time field hockey player? First, some background. The International Hockey Federation was founded in France. The head office has branched out and is also located in Switzerland today. The IHF organizes many different kinds of cup competitions and tournaments throughout the world. There is the Pan American Cup, the EuroHockey Nations Championship and the Africa Cup of Nations. However, a world championship, which is carried out regularly, does not exist. The last Field Hockey World Cup was held in Germany in 2006. The German national team won the cup that year. Germany, beat Spain, to win the Field Hockey Gold Medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Peking. The Netherlands beat China to win the Women's Field Hockey Gold.  The IHF assigns an award called “World Hockey Player of the year”. The male player Pol Amat from Spain and the female player Luciana Aymar from Argentina both got the award in 2008. It already is the fifth time that Luciana Aymar has received this award. She has also received the award “Champions Trophy’s Player of the Tournament” four times. There is no other field hockey or ice hockey player, either male or female, who can boast a similar number of awards. Aymar is a strong player and a hard competitor.
